Appleseed EX Machina is a futuristic CGI film Produced by John Woo and directed by Shinji Aramaki. The movie is rated PG-13 and has some action/violence with strong language. I have not seen any other Appleseed movies and one thing that I noticed was that I was able to watch this movie and enjoy it without seeing any previous movies so any anime fan can pick this up and not be lost in the story!

Left Image Deunan, Right Image Briareos (cyborg) and Tereus (bioroid)

The movie takes place in the year 2133 in the city of Olympus there we find our main characters Deunan, Briareos (cyborg), and Tereus (bioroid) part of a high tech task force called E.S.W.A.T. They are in charge of keeping peace in the city. Deunan finds her self tracking down and fighting cyborg terrorists in a great battle her partner Brianeros becomes badly injured. Deunan is assigned a new partner Tereus who is a engineered Bioroid from the DNA of Briaeos. During further investigations Deunan finds out that the threat is going far beyond the terrorist. She discovers a virus that is being targeted to all the population of Olympus and not just cyborgs which they had thought. All of this is not easy to accomplish when Briareos and Tereus keep fighting with each other.

The Rating

Music: 2/5 - When the fighting starts and we get into action I didn’t really like the choice of music played during the battles and throughout the movie. I think they could of done a better job with the background music.

Sound Effects: 5/5 - I loved the sound effects the guns, bombs and explosions sounded great! It really made up for the music.

Voice Acting: 3/5 - The voice acting was ok nothing amazing or to bad about it. The main characters voice took a little getting used to but other then that it was fine.

Overall 4/5 - Appleseed EX Machina was well worth seeing, when it comes down to mech type movies and anime I am pretty picky. Full Metal Panic! got me started into mecha type anime’s and Appleseed EX Machina defiantly delivered the feel I was looking for. Right from the start action and throughout the movie shooting and gun battles what more could you want!

Buy or Rent? - This would be a buy for me or any mecha fan, with the amazing CGI and story line I think you would want to have this in your collection.

I would like to thank Fred over at M80 for sending me a review copy of Appleseed EX Machina DVD!
