Starting off we follow a boy named Shinta who has been taken away from his village by slave traders, while traveling with the slave traders they are attacked by bandits. These bandits brutally kill everyone including the female slaves who are trying to protect Shinta. After killing everyone they turn to Shinta who stood alone. At this time Seijuro Hiko appears he is the master of Hiten-Misurugi saving Shinta from certain death he takes Shinta under his wing giving him a real swordsmen’s name Kenshin.

It is now 1864 Kenshin now a young man who has had a few years of training decides to leave his masters teachings behind frustrated with Hikos mindset. He heads to the Choshu province where he becomes a powerful assassin. While he is on a mission to assassinate a Tokugawa convoy he encounters Kiyosato a bodyguard after the battle between the two is over Kiyosto is dead and Kenshin has the first cut on his face (First half of the cross-shaped scar on his face). At the time Kenshin was unaware that Kiyosato was getting married to Tomoe who he soon meets!

After a great deal of fighting in the provience of Choshu, Kenshin and Tomoe meet up and are forced to run to the countryside were they pretend to be a married couple. During this time they develop feelings for each other and fall in love. Soon after Kenshin finds himself fighting to save Tomoe during this time Kenshin receives the other cut completing his cross-shaped scar on his face. After this Kenshin becomes the Hitokiri Battousai!

Disc 2: Reflection

Taking a look at the second disc Reflection we catch up with Kenshin in 1893 during this time it’s the Meiji Restoration. He now has a wife Kaoru who he left behind along with his 15 year old son Kenji both are awaiting his return. Kenshin who has set out to repent for all the sins and wrongdoing he has done over the past years when he was a assassin. Throughout this disc we see a look into some battles Kenshin has endured and the wounds received all this leads us up to the grand ending when Kenshin returns home to Kaoru.

My Thoughts

Samurai X is by far one of the best anime dvds you could own, if you have seen or are a fan of the anime series Rurouni Kenshin then this is a must buy! I did not want to get to in-depth with the second disc Reflection since it would of ruined some of the story for you.

The voice acting for these dvds are very well done and converted over into English very well. Each characters voice matches the character perfectly, to me this is a big thing I have seen many English anime’s where you ask yourself what were they thinking.

The fighting and sword battles that we see from Kenshin and others are awesome being the directors cut we don’t miss out on any of the blood and gore that is in the original dvd.

I give ADV Films two thumbs up for doing a great job when putting together Samurai X for us! Now to my readers have you seen this dvd or do you plan on seeing it? What where your thoughts on this anime?
