In South Carolina local newspapers reported on last Friday that a Hartsville Middle School student was removed after a school official confiscated a “Death Note” notebook seen above. Apparently the school officials did link the note book to the anime series “Death Note” which airs on the adult swim network.
The note book did list other student names which is what I believe lead them to take disciplinary actions towards the student. The schools principle plans on treating this as a serious matter on the same grounds of a bomb threat, protecting the schools students is his main concern.
This is not the first death note incident in north America and I am sure will not be the last. The first time I seen this item was out to buy I knew something like this would come in the papers sooner or later with school shootings and such taking place it was only A matter of time before this would be linked to something like that even tho it is just A anime fans notebook.
What do you think of this? Was it bound to happen sooner or later?

1Just what we need, negative press towards anime. But you can’t blame the school at all.

2its sad thats one reason im thinking of ways to move to japan before my son starts school he just turned one but its so hard to know What to buy for a child going to school in Amarica now adays with so many diffrent anime that have titles that can be taken wrong like that. its just deppressing. i remember a time back in the ’90s when i watched Ranma and had some cards people were like but its about a gay guy when its not. and the sad thing is things are only going to get worse from here on out more shootings and bombings of our schools. more bulling and bad teasing. i dont want my son in that kind of inviroment.

3it was bound to happen sooner or later. the student was probably bullied on a regular basis and had a mental problem. so he tried using a death note

4Yes Tonya it is very sad and as a parent wanting the best for your son is a must.
In the USA these sorts of things happen more often then up here in Canada I believe but keep in mind that anime is only starting to get bigger and bigger in north America and Japan is the only place that I think truly accepts it since they create it there life style and culture is more open and a lot more things are tolerated
Also Bobby maybe the student had the death note and just wrote peoples names in it of those who bully him or just as a joke? I just hope nothing to serious happens to this kid for being a anime fan.

5Ha! This happened in Richmond, Virginia, also. At a military school, I believe. But there was no doubt this was going to happen sooner rather than later. It’s no different from a hit list, for which teachers take very seriously(in which they should).
I own a Death Note myself, but have yet to write anything in it. I thought about doing it (as a joke, mainly), but got freaked out and didn’t. XD I guess I just can’t get mad enough at anyone yet that I’d want to put them in there. So, I just carry it around with me for fun now.
But I think people who actually use theirs should know and understand the consequences of having it out in school.

7some countries doesnt understand the culture of others a notebook that has a deathnote written on it has no meaning or reason to be confiscated u can write anything you want its your choice some have their notebooks covered with punk bands, guns, swords etc. they shouldnt focus on the things that doesnt matter they should focus on the most important things “the feelings of the children not theirs” that is why Kîra was made he has seen the true colors of the people in the world…
